TheAncestral
Portraitsare made
through a process in which I project old photographs onto
my body. The portraits employed within the work are
gathered from my family album and date back to the 19th
century. The face is that portion of the body that is most
often associated with identity, and thus, remembrance.
Projecting the portraits of my ancestors directly onto my
face allows me to explore proportional differences and
similarities found within family features. Perhaps more
importantly, I often find striking similarities in bodily
positioning and facial expression.
